Introduction

 Hello! My name is Joyce. I am a children’s book illustrator and art educator. I graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in Illustration in 2025, and I am currently pursuing an MA in Art Education with Initial Certification at Teachers College, Columbia University.

As a children’s book illustrator, my work is inspired by nature, childhood memories, and my culture. I am passionate about telling stories that connect people and communities. I am very familiar with a wide range of traditional art practices, such as oil painting, collage, gouache, and colored pencils. I enjoy the sensory connection between my hands and the materials I use, and I believe this tactile experience can guide me into a flow state where I find inner peace and presence.

Although I am not primarily a digital artist, I am open to learning and engaging with different technologies. In fact, I use Adobe Creative Suite and Procreate on a daily basis for my art projects. I am very excited to explore different forms of digital media and to openly experiment in the New Media, New Forms class.
