(WEEK 1) CREATIVE ASSIGNMENT: ON/OFF EXPERIMENT
On/Off Experiment (Part 1)
The first thing I did was turn my music off because I usually listen to music almost 24/7. Then, I closed my laptop and put away my phone. When all technology was put away, I felt a sense of boredom. I started doing chores to keep myself busy. I watched the snow and the people on the street, and I read some books to pass the time. However, as soon as I heard a notification sound from my phone, I began to imagine what it was, who texted me, or why.
I noticed how slowly time passed compared to normal days when I am on my phone. When I am immersed in the rabbit hole of social media and news, I easily lose track of time and even feel out of touch with the world. I became very bored and physically drained from doing chores, so I decided to take a nap. After the nap, an even stronger sense of loneliness and boredom consumed me. Eventually, I gave in and opened my phone, only to find unimportant messages such as advertisements.
On/Off Experiment (Part 2)
I decided to document my experience in a comic format because of its strength in showing the passage of time and my sense of boredom. I added first-person dialogue to convey my inner thoughts. I have not drawn any comics in the past, so this was a new experiment for me.
