Making Connections: Potential for Classroom Teaching
I imagine myself teaching high school students sound art and video art. Since high school students have generally developed their identities and gained a lot of experience in the way they see the world, I believe they will benefit from art forms that capture multiple perspectives of their lives, such as video art. Moreover, I can envision them telling stories and expressing themselves through videos, which can not only deepen my understanding of them but also their understanding of their peers. Additionally, I would like to engage them in group work to create a collaborative video. This collaboration will strengthen their bonds with each other and create lasting memories.
Sound art is often an undervalued form of art, yet it has so much potential. I’ve seen many high school students develop their sense of music and their identities. Sound is everywhere, and it is a natural resource accessible to every student. Unlike having to search for inspiration, sound is always present at any time. For high school students, I want to encourage them to collect the sounds around them and create a piece about their environment. They may learn about this powerful form of art and use it in future projects.
Overall, I imagine myself teaching video art and sound art to high school students. I hope to see how these new forms of expression will impact their artistic development.
