Scanograph

 Serie one: Reunion

Last week in class, I explored the possibilities of scanography as a form of art. This week, I experimented with storytelling through scanography, focusing on the theme of reunion and departure. My twin sister spent this past week at home reuniting with our family, which inspired this project.

The first series centers on reunion. Each object represents a family member: the glasses represent my mom, the milk candy represents my brother, the cartoon character represents my sister, the bottle of pear juice represents me, the orange block represents my older sister’s family, and the dumplings represent our family as a whole. This series shows a progression over time, in which each person joins and gradually gathers together. We made dumplings together, and voices filled the room with excitement and love.

 Serie two: Departure

The second part of the series represents the departure of each family member. After celebrating the Chinese New Year together, everyone returns to their own lives. Through scanography, I capture the quiet movement of leaving. The figures slowly exit the frame one by one, and the waviness and blurriness reflect the reluctance we all felt. None of uswanted to leave; we lingered in that in-between moment. In the end, only my parents and brother remain. Through this process, I discovered that scanography not only captures emotion but can also unfold a narrative. I truly enjoyed the outcome and hope to continue experimenting with this medium in the future.
